THE STORY:

Based on a true story by R.D.Robbins, MD, this is a play about two Jews, a doctor and a jeweler, who outfox the Nazis.

12 hours of Life in a Major Urban Hospital as observed by one who lived it.

It's not just a bit of poesy to say that in any hospital, Death lurks around every corner. So you'd think folks who work there would Get-Used-To-It. But this is not the case with Dr. Sam Cutter. He can't stop railing against disease, death, and dysfunctional bureaucracy.

Dr. Cutter treats the patients in his E.R. in an expert and profoundly compassionate manner. From curing a prisoner's unnamable condition to bringing an illegal gift to a terminal patient, Cutter's "bedside manner" is surprising, perhaps questionable, but always "patient-centered".
We could use someone like him around these days.

DEVELOPMENT

La MaMa is the oldest off-off-Broadway theatre still running in New York City. This is La MaMa's 51st year!

Its EXPERIMENTS '13 is a monthly program of Concert Readings curated by George Ferencz and presented at the La MaMa Club, directed by Mr. Ferencz. This is its 15th year.

The program features a talkback with the author following the reading.

The performance was scheduled for Monday evening, Oct. 29, the exact day and moment when Hurricane Sandy touched down in New York City.
(It was to feature Spencer Cohen, Timothy Doyle, Kevin Kash, Jason Marks, Pete McCabe, Jim Seaman, & Jenne Vath.)

It has been re-scheduled for Monday evening, January 7, 2013 with the same cast.
